The board of directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club
was held on Thursday March 12, 2015. President Kille called the meeting to
order at 10 AM. Roll was called and 12 members were present.
The secretary read the board meeting minutes from February
5, 2015. The minutes were approved as read.
Walt Baker gave the treasurers report and it was approved
for audit. Walt reported that there are still 13 members who have not paid
their dues. Walt also reported that the audit had been completed and a report
given to the president.
Presidents Items
· President Kille noted that he
had received the audit report and that copies would be made and distributed to
the board at the next meeting.
· Dennis announced that Henry
Leimkuhler had volunteered to lead the membership committee. Bill Brown
volunteered to be on the committee. After discussion, Bill Brown made a motion
“To hold a membership drive contest. The member that recruits the most new
members by December 1st will receive a $100 gift certificate to a
local restaurant”. The motion passed.
· Once again a discussion was held
regarding the negative impact of having the number 65 in the Club name for
recruiting purposes. After various comments by the board members, a motion was
made “To us the title ‘Haddonfield Retired Mens Club’ in all future external
club communications”. The motion passed.
This bypasses the need to officially change the name of the club, which
involves a variety of legal issues.
· Walt reported that he and Charles
Legge had an announcement put into the Methodist church bulletin for multiple
weeks and also in their monthly newsletter.
· Bill Brown announced that a
casino trip has been scheduled for April 28th to the Tropicana. The
cost is $40, which includes $15 in slot play, the buffet and a show. In
addition trips to the Barnes museum and the Flying Fish Brewery are being
considered.
Old Business
New Business
·
Dennis reported that it’s time to start thinking about the 4th of
July parade. He has contacted a member to chair this committee but has not
received an answer. Ron Howley suggested that we consider purchasing aprons
with the club name that could be used by members for all external events as
part of our regular advertisement. Bill Brown volunteered to look into the
costs involved.
· Dennis also indicated that the
AAA driving class at our facility is scheduled for April 16th from
9am to 1pm. We need to have 15 people to justify having an on-site course. The
course results in an auto insurance discount of 3-5%. Bernie agreed to send out
email announcing this opportunity for members and wives.
· The details of the Spring
Luncheon were discussed. Bill Brown reviewed his idea of having a video of the
club history for our 60 anniversary. Mayor Kasko agreed to present a
proclamation in honor of the event. He also reported that the young violinist
has agreed to play again at the luncheon. In addition, he suggested having presenters
of trophies explain to the audience how these trophies are won. A motion was
made “To accept this idea for the luncheon”. The motion passed. Bob Parsons
reported that the food choices for the luncheon will be chicken or tilapia. Due
to a cost increase, the ticket price will be $30 per person this year.
· Bill Brown talked to the
commissioners about changing the sign in front to a handicapped sign. He was
referred to the police chief who said that such a sign would apply for general
use by the public. A motion was made “To pursue having the sign out front
changed to a handicap parking sign”. The motion passed.
The meeting adjourned at 11:15am.
Respectfully submitted,
Bernie Schaming, Secretary
