December, 2020

The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday December 3, 2020. The 65 Club clubhouse was closed due to the Corona virus shutdown. The meeting was conducted remotely using the Zoom program and was set up by Al Schmidt and Richard Bonnette.

President Bill Brown called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM.   Roll was called and thirteen (13) board members, plus Al Schmidt were on the call.

The secretary read the November minutes and the Directors approved the minutes as previously distributed and posted.

President’s Comments

  • Stuart Harding, of the Haddonfield Arts Association and the 65 Club, is raising funds to purchase a statue in honor of Joe Haro.  Joe was a local historian, long time resident of Haddonfield, a former Haddonfield Man of the Year and a 65 Club member.  The BOD approved a donation of $100 to Haddonfield Arts to help fund the statue.
  • Walt Baker will collect toiletries as Christmas presents for Elmwood Cove assisted living residents. He will collect them at the Clubhouse on December 8 from 1-4. He will also collect donations of $10 from anyone who would like to contribute a present but does not want to shop.  The money will be used to purchase warm socks.  Dave Tarditi’s wife will purchase the socks.
  • Jack Poppard offered to prepare music for a Zoom Christmas party on December 8.  This would replace the cancelled annual Methodist Church Christmas party.  After discussion, the board voted not hold a zoom Christmas part and thanked Jack for his offer.

Treasurers Report

·        Treasurer Dave Tarditi informed the board of the following developments and expenditures.

    • Seventy-one (71) members have paid their dues for 2021. By comparison thirteen (13) members had paid dues by this time last year.

·        The Directors approved the treasurers report.

Health & Welfare

·        Henry Leimkuhler reported on the following members.

    • Charles Legge is doing well
    • Don Beck was released from quarantine and was able to return to his wife.
    • Dewaine Osman is seen walking around his neighborhood but is essentially in quarantine.
    • Mark Heston is in quarantine.
    • John Marchesani is in quarantine
  • Henry will order Christmas cookies on December 10 for about fifteen members who are sick, recovering from surgery or in quarantine.  The expected cost is $300.

Membership

  • Roger Jacobs reported the follow developments
    • Roger developed a letter describing `The Perfect Gift’ which is membership in the 65 Club.  This is to implement Bill Brown’s idea. The letter has been submitted to the Haddonfield Sun, Patch and Retrospect for publication.
    • The Club brochure, the Trifold, has been reprinted and the reprints are beautiful. They are currently displayed at the Library, Acme, Borough Hall and three local churches. Roger requested members contact Jersey Java, Saxby’s and Kings Roads Tavern about displaying them at these locations.
    • Haddonfield Today is holding a contest on the Best Holiday Market in the area.  Voting for this is on the web. Roger urges all members to vote on this advertising issue.

Speakers

  • Frank Lodge informed the Directors of the following developments
    • Frank thanked Phil Kinsey for sending out numerous notices very quickly.
    • Governor Murphy issued new shutdowns orders which prevents the club from meeting at Borough Hall.   The order forces all speakers to present via Zoom. This shut down will cause a change in speakers since some speakers prefer to speak in person.  The December 17 presentation will be by John Cokos on running a restaurant and bar.  This is a change in venue.

Trips/ Events

  • Bill Brown reported the following developments
    • No trips have been scheduled for December.
    • Bowling and Bridge continue at reduced rates.
    • Golf has ended its season and will resume in April.
    • Pinocle remains suspended until the clubhouse is reopened.

Old Business

  • Bernie Schaming has investigated updating the florescent lighting in the clubhouse.  This will be done by an electrican but no date on installation has been set.
  • Al Schmidt established the schedule for the December 11 support of the Salvation Army Red kettle fund raising at Starbucks.  Al is looking members to fill two open hours.

New Business

  • Howard Rementer asked who would decide the disposition of the club’s assets if the 65 Club had to dissolve. Should the disposition be added to the bylaws?  There was some discussion of this but the consensus and from experience was the Board of Directors would make this decision and no revisions to the bylaws is required.
  • The Nominating Committee presented the slate of officers for 2021 and the board approved them. The slate will be sent to members separately from the minutes.  One position remains open, that is the assistant treasurer.  Dave Tarditi will contact members who have joined the club within the last three years to find a candidate and involve the member in the club.

Information Sharing

  • No information was presented for sharing.

Adjournment

The meeting adjourned at 10:45 AM.

Respectfully submitted,

Fred Willis, Secretary
