December, 2017
The board of directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held
on Thursday December 7, 2017. President Henry Leimkuhler called the meeting to
order at 10 AM. Roll was called and 13 members were present.
The secretary read the board meeting minutes from November 2, 2017.
The minutes were approved as read.
Dave Tarditi gave the treasurers report
and it was approved for audit. Dave suggested that the Christmas party and wine
& cheese party be included as line items in next year’s budget.
Membership
The board approved Joseph Perhosky,
Douglas Hambry and William Olver as new members in the club and approved William
Reilly as a new guest member.
Trips
· The Revolutionary
Way Museum trip had 4 people who couldn’t make the trip. The Museum
subsequently sent 4 tickets for them to use at some other time. The Tropicana
trip was great but we only had 30 people sign up for the trip. Since our
break-even point required 40 people we lost money on this trip.
Bill
suggested a trip to tour the Evergreens in January and after discussion January
16th was selected as the date. The Evergreens will provide a tour
followed by lunch.
Another trip
has been selected for February 8th after the regular Thursday
meeting to the Eclipse brewery in Pennsauken.
Discussions are ongoing regarding bringing lunch to the brewery since
they don’t serve food.
Old Business
· President Leimkuhler reported that the Christmas party is
all set. The entertainment, is arranged and Ken Landgraf will again make the punch.
Members are reminded to bring an unwrapped gift as well as an appetizer or
dessert. Henry has also contacted the Elmwood
Hills Healthcare Center to inform them we would be delivering gifts.
· Bill Brown noted that we will be manning the Salvation
Army kettle at the Acme on Friday, December 15th from 10sm to 5pm in
one-hour shifts. He still has two one-hour open slots.
New Business
· David will
present a proposed budget for 2018 at the January directors meeting. He will
include line items for the Christmas party and the wine & cheese party.
· Bill Brown
raised two questions which were presented to him by club members. The first was
“why are we inviting women to the Christmas party if this is a men’s club?”.
The answer is that after the success of having spouses at the wine & cheese
party, the board decided to also invite them to the Christmas party. It
provides another opportunity for wives to get to know other members and their
spouses. The second question was “why not invite women to club meetings?”. The
simple answer is because the by-laws state that this is a club for retired
men. The Christmas party, the wine &
cheese party and the Ladies Luncheon in the spring are all special events to
which women are invited.
· David
Tarditi reported that there has been a recall of fire extinguishers made by
Kidde. This is a very large recall. IF you own one of these extinguishers, you
can call 855-271-0773 or visit www.kidde.com
and click on product safety recall for
more information. If you supply the model # and Serial # of your extinguisher,
they will replace it free of charge if it is one of the extinguishers in the
recall. A note will be placed in the January newsletter for all the members.
The meeting adjourned at 11:00
AM.
Respectfully submitted,
Bernie Schaming, Secretary
