The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday December 1, 2022. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

President Roger Jacobs called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM. Hank Zaleski took the minutes for Fred Willis who was on vacation.  Dave Tarditi led the directors in the Pledge of Allegiance and provided a prayer.

Roll was called and twelve (12) board members were present.

  • The November minutes, which had been distributed and posted earlier, were approved by the Directors.

 

President’s Report – Roger Jacobs

2023 Officers

  • Roger reviewed the slate of officers and board members proposed by the nominating committee as follows:

New Board of Directors for Three Years.

At year end, actually at the January 12, 2023 Business meeting, the current Directors for One Year will have completed the last year of their one-year term. Walter Baker will not be renewing a three-year Board of Directors term but will continue to be an important and active club member! Thank you, Walt for many years of service!

Howard Rementer confirmed that he will continue to serve on the 65 Club Board of Directors in 2023 for a new three-year term. Thank you, Butch!

Henry Leimkuhler will not be renewing a three-year Board of Directors term but has agreed to continue his excellent service as Chairman of the Friendship Committee. Thank you, Henry!

Immediate past president. Frank Lodge, has agreed to serve on the 65 Club Board of Directors in 2023 for a new three year term. Thank you, Frank!

Abraham (Abe) Ferda of Cherry Hill has agreed to serve on the 65 Club Board of Directors in 2023 for a new three-year term.  Thank you, Abe!

The 2023 Board of Directors for Three years will include Howard Rementer, Frank Lodge and Abe Ferdas.

The current 2022 Directors for Three years, Rich Carney, Jay Cokos and Tom Diemer, have agreed to a new term in 2023 as members of the Board for a Two-year term.

The current 2022 Directors for Two years, Tim Barnes, Bernie Schaming and Al Schmidt have agreed to a new term in 2023 as members of the Board for a One-year term.

As immediate past president, Roger Jacobs will be a member of the Board for One Year

Officers for 2023 are:

  • President: David Tarditi
  • 1st Vice President: Joseph Galliera
  • 2nd Vice President: William (Chuck) Kanupke.
  • Secretary: Fred Willis
  • Treasurer: Henry Zaleski.

All officers and Directors will be sworn in at the January 12, 2023 Business Meeting in the Clubhouse

Award

  • Roger reviewed a recommendation by Bill Brown to present Mike Underwood with the Bill Hitchens Award for his outstanding service to the 65 Club over the years. The recommendation was unanimously supported and approved. Bernie will get the Plaque updated so it can be presented to Mike at the Christmas Luncheon.

Borough Building Scheduling System

  • Bernie completed the initial scheduling of club events through year-end 2023. He tried scheduling it out for 10 years. However, the system could not accommodate this extension . Despite this, we still plan to be here for the next 10 years!

Historical Society

  • Roger reported that he is seeking senior members who might have information on former gas stations/auto dealers in Haddonfield for a pamphlet a committee is working on for the historical society

Treasurers Report – Hank Zaleski

  • The main receipt and expense item for November was the Wine and Cheese Party. As usual, Bill Brown managed the fees and costs so that the event was close to break even. The Treasurer’s November Report was approved by the board.
  • Assuming no surprises in December, the club’s operating income will exceed forecast and expenses will be below forecast for 2022.
  • The Operating Budget for 2023 was reviewed and approved. The balanced budget forecast for  2023 is $6400 in receipts and expenses.

Speakers – David Tarditi

  • Speakers are scheduled through December and into mid-January
  • See the Newsletter for the scheduled speakers.
  • Dave thanked everyone who was so helpful the past year in helping him find weekly speakers.

Membership – Joe Galliera

  • No new applications this month
  • The Turkey Trot was a success with 10 volunteers from the 65 Club.
  • The American Legion sponsored 5k run on December 10th was also discussed. It was agreed that the Club would volunteer to work that event this year and in future years.

Events

Christmas Party – Jay Cokos

  • The club’s Christmas party will be held on Thursday December 8 at the Methodist Church.
  • An unwrapped gift of socks or something similar is welcomed.  This will be given to the Salvation Army
  • Expecting 50-60 people
  • Song books, plates and food ordered

 Friendship Committee – Henry Leimkuhler

  • Henry is coordinating cookies and Christmas cards for homebound membersi

The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday November 4, 2022. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

President Roger Jacobs called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM. Dave Tarditi led the directors in the Pledge of Allegiance and provided a prayer.

Roll was called and thirteen (13) board members were present.

  • The October minutes, which had been distributed and posted earlier, were approved by the Directors.

 

President’s Report – Roger Jacobs

Borough Building Scheduling System

  • Roger informed the directors the borough was implementing an electronic scheduling system for the use of borough property.  This will replace the current email system.  The scheduling will be done through the borough website.
  • The directors had a long and thorough discussion of how to use this system, who in the club should do the scheduling and the possible implications of using the Clubhouse.
  • The directors appointed Roger and Bernie to perform the initial scheduling of club events.  They will report to the directors on how the process is done. Any issues or problems concerning the scheduling system will be discussed and responded to at subsequent directors meeting.

Officers

  • A 2nd VP candidate for next year is required. New and recent Haddonfield resident members are encouraged to apply.

Treasurers Report – Hank Zaleski

  • This was an active month. Expenses were $2,228.75 and income was $1,703. The largest expenses were the Fall Luncheon and a deposit for the Spring Luncheon.  The largest receipts were from the Green Jar and the Fall luncheon.
  • The club’s income and expenses still match the budget forecast. Income exceeds expenses however the cost of the new video equipment has not been received.
  • A budget for 2023 is being developed. Members are requested to submit estimates for any capital improvements they believe are required.
  • Hank purchased $9,000 worth of I-Bonds for the club.  This required cashing in about $8,000 in CD’s. The higher I-Bond interest rate made this change an improved investment.  The club still has $2,500 in a CD as a cash reserve. This issue was discussed under New Business in the September Minutes.
  • The club does not have an assistant treasurer.  To obtain access to the I-Bond’s and CD, in the event of the treasurer being unavailable, Secretary Fred Willis will have backup access.
  • The Treasurer’s October Report was approved by the board. 

Speakers – David Tarditi

  • Speakers are scheduled through December.  
  • See the Newsletter for the scheduled speakers.
  • Work is beginning on scheduling speakers for January and February.  This assists the incoming 1st VP

Membership – Joe Galliera

  • One member, John Reed, resigned due to family obligations.
  • Three member applications were reviewed and approved for membership.

    • Tom Pomidoro of Haddonfield
    • Ralph Spohn of Cherry Hill

 

Trips/ Events –

Christmas Trip

  • Bill has arranged for a bus trip to Spring Lake for a Christmas lunch and show on December 6.  The cost is $100 per person and the club must guarantee 40 attendees.  The trip has been advertised in local newspapers.
  • To date only eight (8) people have signed up and there is considerable concern from Bill about meeting the guarantee. The directors shared this concern and voted to authorize cancellation if Bill recommends this. Bill will make this decision based upon signups and when the club must pay for the trip.

Christmas Party

  • The club’s Christmas party will be held on Thursday December 8 at the Methodist Church.
  • An unwrapped gift of socks or something similar is welcomed.  This will be given to the Salvation Army

Wine and Cheese Party

  • The club will hold its annual Wine and Cheese party on Saturday November 12 at 7:00 PM. It will be held at Grace Episcopal Church.
  • Cost is $10 per person and wives are invited. Guests are free. A dessert or appetizer are accepted but not required.  Please notify Bill, if possible, if you plan to attend.  This is not necessary though and last minute attendees are welcomed.

Turkey Trot

  • Joe Galliera requested assistance to help with the Lions 5K run.  This will occur on the Saturday, November 26, after Thanksgiving.
  •  Club members should meet at the club house at 8:00 AM.  They will receive their location assignment, reflective vest and donuts at that time and a tee shirt afterwards for their assistance.  The run will finish about 10:30 AM.

Salvation Army Red Kettle.

  • Al Schmidt informed the members the Red Kettle Christmas collection will be held at the Haddonfield Acme.
  • The club will man the collection on December 16 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.  Contributions will go to the Croc Center in Camden.
  • Volunteers are required to man the Kettle.  A sign-up sheet is in the clubhouse or contact Al.

The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday October 6, 2022. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

President Roger Jacobs called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM. Dave Tarditi was in Switzerland. In his absence John Cokos led the directors in the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of God Bless America.  Roger provided a prayer.

Roll was called and fifteen (15) board members were present.  

Minutes – Fred Willis

  • The September minutes, which had been distributed and posted earlier, were approved by the Directors.

 

President’s Report – Roger Jacobs

  • Roger thanked everyone who participated in the Flea market.  The income exceeded all expectations and was the largest in the club’s history.
  • The Lions 5K run on Ocotber 1 was postponed, by the police, due to rain. The club had a large contingent of members who were assisting in the race’s operation.  The race will be held on October 8 and it is hoped the club members will assist then.
  • The Fall Festival will be held October 8 and the club will participate.
  •  Volunteers are required to assist in setting up and disassembling the club’s tables and tent. Set up will occur at 9:00 AM and tear down at 4:00 PM. Volunteers are required to man the two tables and to assist with operating the two games.
  • Club Trifolds will be handed out
  • Bernie Scahaming has volunteered to donate the games to any member who would like to have them.

 

Treasurers Report – Hank Zaleski

  • This was an active month. Expenses were $3,530 and income was $6,250. The largest expenses were the Toms River Boat Cruise and the Flea Market Gift Cards.  The largest receipts were the Toms River Boat Cruise and the Flea Market sales.
  • Income for the year is up due to the $650 from Carl’s Sunoco and the large Flea Market sales.  The club’s income and expenses now match the budget forecast.
  • Tim Barnes reported on the I-Bonds investment possibility. See new business
  • The Treasurer’s September Report was approved by the board.

  • Joe Galliera filled in for Dave who is in Switzerland.
  • Jim Rhodes of the Camden County Emergency Management Agency will speak today

  • Two guest applications were reviewed and approved for membership.

Trips/ Events –

  • The Toms River Boat Cruise was filled and actually had 41 attendees instead of the expected 40.  Members who went on the trip agreed the trip was excellent.
  • The BOD approved Bill Brown to investigate if a Christmas casino bus trip is feasible.
  • Th club’s Christmas party will be held in the second week of December,

  • Two members are having severe problems which include hospitalization.

  • Art Sale
    • Member Jack Lardis, who is an artist, is giving away his art. For anyone interested they should review Jack’s website and contact him directly.  His website is lardis-art.com
  • Fall Luncheon
    • Fall Luncheon – this is being held at Kunkles. 38 memebers have signed up, 50 attendees are desired.  Phillies Dickie Noles will speak.
    • The BOD approved a maximum honorarium of $300 for Noles.
    • Tim will donate some spirits to the club for consumption at the Luncheon
  • I Bonds
    • Tim Barnes investigated switching some of the clubs’ CD’s to iBonds.  He discovered ibonds will currently pay about 9.75%  for six months then switch to a lower rate based on inflation.  The term is five (5) years with a three (3) month interest penalty if cashed in early.  The maximum investment is $10,000
    • After a discussion the Directors approved the treasurer to cash in two club CD’s worth about $8,100 and invest them in iBonds. The ibonds are liquid and the high six-month rates covers lost income if a cash in is required.
    • Tha directors approved to hold one CD in reserve to cover any emergencies in operating cash flow.
  • Boy Scouts
    • Troop 64 assisted the club at the Flea Market with loading the truck which removed the unsold items.  One member proposed the club donate $100 to the troop for its assistance.  Another member, who spent many years in the scouts, disagreed saying this action was a community action by the scouts who expected no payment.
    • After some discussion the Directors vote to approve the payment.

 The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday September 1, 2022. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

President’s Report – Roger Jacobs

  • Roger participated in the meeting via his cell phone. He communicated with Dave Tarditi who relayed his comments to the Directors.
  • Vice President Dave Tarditi read the President’s Report.
    • Dave was thanked for consistently obtaining excellent speakers
    • Roger complimented Joe Galliera for doing well in getting new members.
    • The club will have a busy September/October with the Flea Market, River Cruise, Fall Festival and Fall Luncheon coming up.

Treasurer's Report – Hank Zaleski

  • This was another quiet month. Expenses were $823, with the insurance premium being the biggest expenditure ($636). Income was $158.
  • September will be a more financially active month with the Flea Market and River Cruise
  • A discussion took place regarding the potential for investment in I-Bonds as another safe investment for the Club’s financial assets. Tim Barnes and Hank Zaleski will look at potential options and report to the Directors at the next meeting.
  • The Treasurer’s August Report was approved by the board.

  • Speakers are scheduled out through the end of October.

Membership – Joe Galliera

  • One application was reviewed and approved for Leonard Weinberg – a Haddonfield resident.

Trips/ Events –

  • Hank has bees working with Trip master Bill Brown. He reported that the Toms River Cruise slated for 9/27/22 had 32 sign-ups so far. The Safety Bus Company is requiring a minimum of 40 and wants the full payment by September 5th. The Directors approved the trip and authorized paying the difference even if it exceeded the $200 subsidy historically authorized for past trips.

Old Business

  • Flea Market (9/10/22) - Bernie Schaming reported that donations appear to be larger than anything he has seen in the past. He will need a lot of help loading the vans on Friday (9/9) afternoon after 3pm and unloading starting 6:30 am on Saturday
  • Fall Festival (10/8/22) – The activities are all decided, Help will be needed through the day

President’s Report – Roger Jacobs

  • Vice President Dave Tarditi read the President’s Report.
    • Dave was thanked for consistently obtaining excellent speakers
    • Frank Lodge and club participants were thanked for their 4th place finish in the July 4th parade.
    • Roger complimented Joe Galliera for doing well in getting new members.

 

Treasurers Report – Hank Zaleski

  • This was a quiet month. Expenses were $626. and income was $183.
  • The $275.speakers gift expense was not forecasted but is not a problem.
  • The club is still in good shape financially. As a result of dues collected from new members in 2022 the club will exceed the "Dues" forecasted in this year's budget.
  • The club received good interest on CD’s.  This income was placed in the Memorial Fund.
  • The club’s liability insurance bill will be received this month. it is expected the insurance cost will increase by about $30.
  • The Treasurer’s July Report was approved by the board. 

 

Speakers – David Tarditi

  • Today’s speaker from Interfaith Caregivers had to be canceled due to a family emergency. A movie concerning former Assembly woman Mary Previtt will be shown.

 

Membership – Joe Galliera

  • Joe informed the directors two applications were received and waiting for directors’ approval.  Applicants, Joe Kiernan and Jack Kelly are from Haddonfield. The applications were reviewed, approved and the Haddonfield residents joined the Club as full members.  

 

Trips/ Events –

  • There was no report but one director mentioned there is a trip scheduled for August 9.

 

 Friendship Committee – Henry Leimkuhler

  • Jack Marchesani has been forced to use a wheel chair.
  • Former director Jim Dunn is in failing health.
  • Dennis Keely has recovered sufficiently from some health issues to resume playing golf.

Old Business

Fall Festival

  • The October 8 Fall Festival will be held on Kings Highway.  The club will participate in the event.
  • Volunteers are required to man the tables. Just show up.

 

 

Flea Market

  • Donations by club members and the public are requested. They may be delivered now to the clubhouse.
  • The directors approved placing a sign on the clubhouse front lawn promoting a Lions Club 5K run.

 

New Business

  • Tim suggested approaching Cathedral Kitchen in Camden for a possible presentation.  Tim will pursue this with Dave’s support.

 The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday July 7, 2022. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

President Roger Jacobs was in Canada and attended by phone.  First Vice President David Tarditi called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM.  Dave Tarditi led the directors in the Pledge of Allegiance and provided a prayer.

Roll was called and fourteen (14) board members were present.

  • The June minutes were not discussed.

 

President’s Report – Roger Jacobs

  • There was no report.

 

Treasurers Report – Hank Zaleski

  • This was a low spend out month.
  • The club received a $650 contribution from Carl’s Sunoco.
  • $455 in contributions in the memory of Dan Columbi were also received.  These two contributions bring the club budget close into balance.  With the flea market now scheduled, the club should maintain its budget for the year.
  • The directors approved a $100 contribution to Grace Church for its printing of the club directory.
  • The Treasurer’s June Report was approved. 

 

Speakers – David Tarditi

  • Dave reported speakers have been arranged through the first week of August, but he is still looking for more.
  • July 14 – Peter Mott House – Lawnside Historical Society
  • July 21 – Merchant marine of WWII

 

Membership – Joe Galleria

  • Joe informed the directors three applications were received and waiting for directors’ approval.  Two applicants, Michael Gunwoles and Jack O’Brien, are from Haddonfield and one applicant, John Reed is from Cherry Hill.  The applications were reviewed, approved and the Haddonfield residents joined the Club as full members and the Cherry Hill resident as a guest member.

 

Trips/ Events –

  • There was no report.

 

 Friendship Committee – Henry Leimkuhler

  • Jack Marchesani is still struggling with Covid.
  • An unnamed member has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Old Business

Fall Festival

  • The October 8 Fall Festival will be held on Kings Highway.  The club will participate in the event.
  • Volunteers are required to man the table.

July 4 Parade

  • There was considerable discussion concerning planning for the July 4th parade. Several problems are developing and the directors consider the parade an important recruiting tool.
  • It is becoming difficult to find sufficient manpower, eighteen are required.
  • Frank Lodge requires support to plan the theme and provide the required displays.
  • The directors approved the establishment of a committee to plan the parade display.
  • Frank Lodge will be chairman and will ask for volunteers to provide theme suggestions and to work on the display during the year.
  • Additional information will be provided in the monthly Newsletter.

 

New Business

Flea market

  • The Lions Club Annual Flea market will be held on Saturday September 10 and the 65 Club will participate.
  • The location is One Centennial Square, the former Archer-Greiner parking lot.
  • Donations by club members and the public are requested. They may be delivered to the clubhouse starting in the middle of August.
  • Weekly announcements will be made.
  • Volunteers to set up and man the booth are required.

 

Donations

  • The board instructed the secretary to send a letter to Tish Columbi notifying her of the numerous donations received in Dan’s Memory.

 

Baby sitter

  • This issue is normally not a club issue but was requested by Saul Resnick.  Saul is looking for a baby sitter for his young grandson.  If anyone is interested or knows someone interested, they should contact Saul directly for details.

 

Meeting Procedures.

  • This subject was reluctantly discussed by the directors.  All comments were by directors or relayed to directors by club members.
  • Weekly meetings have become too long.  Attendees are generally setting aside an hour for a meeting and this time is being greatly exceeded.
  • Too much time is being spent on borough events and announcements, repeating club rules and requesting committee reports which are required only at Business meetings.
  • Members are deciding attendance based on presentation subject and the expected extended involved time.

 The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday June 2, 2022. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

President Roger Jacobs called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM.  Dave Tarditi led the directors in the Pledge of Allegiance and provided a prayer.

Minutes – Fred Willis

  • Reading of the May minutes was omitted. The Directors approved the minutes as previously distributed and posted.

President’s Report – Roger Jacobs

  • Roger thanked Bill Brown for arranging a great spring luncheon at Tavistock.
  • The funeral service for Dan Columbi was well attended by 65 Club members.
  • The Poppy Project display honoring the New Jersey military members who died in World War 1 was very well done. There was a good parade on Memorial Day and Joe Ade, a former marine and current 65 Club member, marched from Chestnut Street to the HMHS in honor of the fallen men and women.
  • June 4 is the Skirmish and about thirteen (13) 65 club members will participate in it as Constables.
  • David Hunter of the Haddonfield Sun will publish a three months list of the club’s speakers.  This list is to encourage readers to join the club.  Dave Tarditi will provide a list of the May speakers and projected June and July speakers.
  • The state primary election will be held June 7.

 

Treasurers Report – Hank Zaleski

  • There were extensive club expenditures in May. Expenses exceeded income by about $2000.
  • The May spring luncheon financially broke even and the club made about $200 from the 50/50 and a donation from Joe McElroy.
  • Two donations were received in memory of Dan Columbi.
  • The Treasurer’s May Report was approved. 

 

Speakers – David Tarditi

Dave reported speakers have been arranged through July 21, but he is still looking for more.

  • June 2 Pam and Ron Pontano will speak on “Honor flight” a program wherein they take day trips (mostly by bus) for 100-150 Veterans to various historical / patriotic sites so to help the Veterans learn more about the country for which they fought.
  • June 9 – Business meeting.
  • June 16 – Local Store – Bill Green will describe operating a jewelry store
  • June 23 -Sustainability – Camden County Official
  • June 30 – Rodney Thomas - Avoiding Scams
  • July 14 – Peter Mott House – Lawnside Historical Society
  • July 21 – Merchant marine of WWII

  • Joe informed the directors two applications, Lawrence Gregorio and David Restepo, both of Haddonfield, are waiting for approval.  The applications were reviewed, approved and the gentlemen joined the Club as full members  

 

Trips/ Events –

  • The October Stag luncheon will be held October 13 at 12:00 PM. Tavis tock will be closed for renovation and the luncheon will be held at the Westmont Diner on Cuthbert Road.  BYOB. Dickie Noels, a former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher will be the speaker.

  • Carl’s Sunoco station will be 65 years old on June 9, the date of the 65-club business meeting. Carl’s is donating $0.65 per gallon, on June 9, to various Service Clubs in Haddonfield, of which the 65 Club is one. Doug Rauschenberg has researched the history of gas stations in Haddonfield.  Instead of the business meeting, Doug will present his research to the 65 Club and members will go to Carl’s afterwards for further possible events.
  • The club is still waiting to hear if the Lions club will have a Flea Market this year. 
  • Fred Willis attempted to assemble the paper model that was to be used in the 4th of July parade. Fred discovered the assembly was more difficult than expected and when scaled up as required for the parade would require much more time than the club members could expend.  Frank concurred and the model idea was canceled.  Frank is now investigating topics that can be placed on posters.
  • The Mayor’s Wellness Conference is rescheduled from Saturday May 7 to Saturday October 1.
  • The Fall Festival will be moved to Saturday October 8 and is currently scheduled to be held in the parking lot behind Borough Hall.  The directors do not believe this is an adequate location and the club will not participate if this location remains.

 The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday May 5, 2022. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

President Roger Jacobs called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM.  Dave Tarditi led the directors in the Pledge of Allegiance and provided a prayer

Roll was called and fifteen (15) board members were present.  

Minutes – Fred Willis

  • Reading of the April minutes was done. This was by error since the Directors had previously vote to eliminate the reading of the minutes that were distributed earlier.  The Directors approved the minutes

President’s Report – Roger Jacobs

  • Roger discussed an issue that was purposely excluded from the May Newsletter, given the importance of the event and the many events leading up to it, requiring a separate notice. The issue is the possible club assistance in the 2020 Poppy Project.  This is the project that was initiated in 2020 to have a poppy for every New Jersey serviceman killed in World War I.  The project was placed on hold due to the pandemic. It has been revived and the 3,837 Poppies will be assembled in strings for display on May 30 Memorial Day in front of HMHS.  Club member assistance may be required.
  • There will be various activities honoring World War I veterans on May 9, 14, 23. This activity is being coordinated by American Legion Post 38.  The Directors authorized Roger to be the club point of contact if Dave Tarditi requested some assistance.
  • There are two remaining lectures on Haddonfield history presented by Camden County College.  These presentations are in connection with the June 4 Skirmish.  The presentations are at Borough Hall or the Masonic Temple and will be held May 25 and June 1.
  • The wine and cheese fund raising event for the Association for Constitutional Awareness was held April 30 at the Haddonfield Historical Society and was well attended.

 

Treasurers Report – Hank Zaleski

  • There were few club expenditures in April.
  • There was some discussion About the expenses of snacks, particularly since higher priced snacks were being selected.
  • The club’s camera system has not yet been bought.  This will be about $2000. Spending less than the budgeted amount of $2000 could help with budget shortfalls and overspending in other areas. 
  • A review of the club’s cash on hand now versus the end of the year cash was made and compared to years 2015-2021.  The current cash is similar to the reference years.
  • The Treasurer’s Report was approved. 

 

Speakers – David Tarditi

Dave reported speakers have been arranged through May19., but he was still looking for more.

  • May 12 – Spring luncheon at Tavistock CC.
  • May 19 –A trip to Iran. This goes back a few years and will be a slide presentation by two Americans who visited much of Iran, so to give us a” hands on” insight of this “different from our culture” troubling nation.
  • May 25 – Dr Yang - Acupuncture
  • June 2 Pam and Ron Pontano will speak on “Honor flight” a program wherein they take day trips (mostly by bus-at their own expense) for 100-150 Veterans to various historical / patriotic sites so to help the Veterans learn more about the country for which they fought.
  • June 9 – Business meeting,
  • June 16 – Local Store – Bill Green will describe operating a jewelry store
  • June and others to be Determined! Recommendations are welcome.
  • Dave discussed having a speaker from the Peter Mott house in Lawnside provide a presentation.  The Mott hosue was a stop on the Underground Railroad.  The Mott House is currently undergoing restoration and has requested $100 honorarium for the presentation.  The club does not pay for speakers but six individual members will contribute to cover the cost.

Membership – Joe Galleria

  • Joe informed the directors two applications, Al Balky and Doug Donor, were waiting for approval.  The applications would be provided to the directors for approval today. The directors reviewed the application and approved the gentlemen as Guest members
  • Guest membership is growing faster than Haddonfield members. The wait time for guest members to become full members is increasing.

Trips/ Events –

  • The Spring Luncheon has 100 sign ups so far.  The event will break even
    • The directors discussed whether there should be a head table.  Several of the officers who would have to sit at the table preferred round tables of eight.  It was decided there would be no head table and officers would sit with the membership.
    • There will be a 50/50 raffle which Hank will conduct. Money from the 50/50 goes to the club, not to pay for the luncheon.
    • There will be club event award presentations.
    • Directories will be available.  A sign-up sheet will be used to prevent mailing directories unnecessarily.
  • On May 10, a car pool trip, will visit Barclay Farms and the Indian Kings Tavern and end with a pizza lunch at the 65 Club Clubhouse.

Old Business

  • Constables for the skirmish are required.  The Constables will sign up for specific time duration.  The current six-hour shift requires some breaks which must be covered.
  • The club is still waiting to hear if the Lions club will have a Flea Market this year.  The club has joined the Lions club Flea Market in the past. The absence of the flea market will significantly affect the clubs’ income. Al Schmidt will follow this issue.  If the Lion’s market is not held, he will investigate having a yard sale or joining the flea market of another organization.  The Lion’s problem is finding a location.
  • Frank Lodge has suggested a new topic for the Club’s 4th of July parade entry. It is still in the design stage and may add a new dimension to the Club’s entry! Bernie Schaming has agreed to head up an assembly team.
  • Bernie requested the Newsletter have only six pages because the current 8-10 pages is too thick for the existing envelopes.  Phil will investigate if reducing the number of pages is possible.

 

New Business

  • The Mayor’s Wellness Conference is postponed from Saturday May 7 to the October 1 Fall Festival.

 The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday April 7, 2022. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

President Roger Jacobs called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM.  Dave Tarditi led the directors in the Pledge of Allegiance and provided a prayer

Roll was called and fourteen (14) board members were present.  

Minutes – Fred Willis

  • Reading of the March minutes was omitted. The Directors approved the minutes as previously distributed and posted.

President’s Report – Roger Jacob

  • Roger presented several issues concerning Haddonfield Borough issues and activities the 65 club members would be interested in or are participating in.  He asked the directors which ones they though the club should send to the membership.
    • After a brief discussion, the directors voted not to send notice of Haddonfield borough issues to the membership.  This was not the club’s responsibility and information all the issues are available through the local newspapers and on Haddonfield-Haddon Patch.
    • John Cokos proposed the club notify the membership of a Wine and Cheese fund raiser for the Association for Constitutional Awareness, an organization which provides a $150 scholarship to high school students who provide evidence they have read the US Constitution and Bill of Rights.  After a short discussion the directors approved this notice to be emailed to the membership.
    • Roger informed the directors that Camden County College was sponsoring six lectures on various aspects of American Revolution history which occurred in or around Haddonfield.  The lectures are held Wednesday evening at the Masonic Temple or Borough Hall. The directors approved sending the Lecture information to the membership.
  • Roger thanked Dave Tarditi for the cocktail hour Dave held at his home for attendees prior to the Post 38 Last Man Standing dinner at Tavistock CC on Tuesday April 5.

 

Treasurers Report – Hank Zaleski

  • The Club’s expenses for March exceeded income by about $400.  Income was approximately $1,300, mainly for the Spring Luncheon.  Expenses were about $1700 Which was mainly composed of $1000 for the annual high school scholarship and $300 for a donation to the Lions Club.
  • Five (5) members have not yet paid their 2022 dues. They will be deleted from the 2022 Club directory which will be published shortly.
  • The $100 Boy’s state contribution to the American Legion will not be made this year.
  • The Treasurer’s Report was approved.

Dave reported speakers have been arranged through May19., but he was still looking for more.

  • April 21 – Robert “Rocky” Wilson –He is a poet, a performance artist, and a teacher who lives near the Delaware River in Camden He has studied creative writing at both Penn State and Rutgers, and has a Master’s degree in Dance Education from Temple Univ. He has been interpreting Whitman in schools and libraries and for historical groups at the Philly Fringe Festival. He may be accompanied by Bongo, his puppet monkey, referred to as “The Puppet Laureate of Camden.” Rocky, besides writing poems, has hosted “Pizza & Poetry at A Slice of New York in Camden”, which is one of the longest running poetry series in New Jersey. This past year, with the help of Bongo, he wrote a children’s book “The Lucky Monkey”. Additionally, he has been a substitute teacher in the city for over 40 years.
  • April 28 – Jack Landis –A 65 Club recent addition, will speak on: “Near Death Experiences”

  • The board approved two new members Jim Carson of Haddonfield and Craig Evans of Haddon Heights.
  • The directors where informed Margaret Martin of Cherry hill donated an almost complete collection of Louis Lamour westerns to the club, these are hard back books in excellent condition which her husband read on business trips.
  • Joe will send her a Thank you note.

 

Trips/ Events – Bill Brown

  • The Spring Luncheon has 45 sign ups so far.  Attendance of 100 is desired. Bill passed out lists of members to call to ask them to attend.
  • Bill is trying to set up a local trip on May 10. The trip will include visits to Barclay Farms, the Haddonfield historical society with a review of the tool collection and a pizza lunch at the 65 Club Clubhouse. Attendance will be limited to twenty (20) members

  • Tom Diemer inquired whether the club wanted to purchase a tower fan when the air-conditioner was not turned on but some cooling was required.  The directors voted to table the motion until a later time.
  • The Haddonfield Fall Festival will be held this year on Saturday October 1.
  • The club will request a table and will erect a tent this year.  Volunteers to assist in erecting the tent and manning the table are requested.
  • The club is waiting to hear if the Lions club will have a Flea market this year.  The club has joined the Lions club Flea Market in the past. The absence of the flea market will significantly affect the clubs’ income
  • Frank Lodge will supervise the Club 4th of July parade entry. His lasted subject suggestion is Our Town/ Our neighborhood.  How each section of Haddonfield was named.
  • Bernie requested the Newsletter have only even number of pages, even if one page is blank. An uneven number of pages does not print properly.

 

Joke master

Normally the Directors’ meeting is not ended with a Joke but Howard wanted to set a new precedent.  After listening to Howard’s joke, the directors decided the old procedure was far preferable.
