New Business

·         The Lions club will not have a Flea Market in September this year thus the 65 Club is unable to join the Lions Flea Market.

·         There was a suggestion the 65 Club hold a yard sale or flea market at the clubhouse to replace the Lions Flea Market. After considerable discussion this was rejected.  There are too many problems for the club to successfully hold one.  Some of these issues were available space, having enough members willing to spend the day there and removal of non sold items. The club will investigate having a Flea Market in the spring.

·         The meeting adjourned at 10:36 AM.

April, 2020

April 2020
The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday April 2, 2020. The 65 Club clubhouse was closed due to the Corona virus shutdown. The meeting was conducted remotely using the Zoom program and was set up by Al Schmidt. President Bill Brown called the meeting to order at 10 AM. Roll was called and 11 members were on the call.

President Bill Brown gave a short thank you to the directors for attending through Zoom.  He gave some recommendations to keep us busy during this extended shutdown and required isolation. Included in his recommendations was exercise, learning to cook without poisoning yourself, and write letters to friends.  Bill also thanked members Rich Bonnette for teaching the members how to use Zoom and Phil Kinsey who has spent considerable time keeping the membership informed of meetings and providing Zoom information.

Treasurers Report

·         Treasurer Dave Tarditi provided a detailed financial statement of the club’s finances.  Due to extraordinary expenditures and lateness in dues, the club’s budget and reserves have decreased slightly but are still in good shape.
·         In the past month, the club has made $700 in donations. $500 was donated to the Indian King Tavern to sponsor the Yelling Contest. The winner of this contest would be the town crier announcing the June `Skirmish’ event. Unfortunately, the skirmish has been cancelled due to the virus situation.  The contribution will provide advertisement for the club when the Yelling Contest and skirmish are held, probably next year. The contribution will eventually help purchase a Town Crier outfit for the IKT.
·         The second contribution was $200 for poppies to honor World War I New Jersey veterans who were killed and interned on foreign soil.  The two contributions were identified as extraordinary expenditures in the budget.
·         Seventeen (17) members have not paid dues for 2020 as of April 2.  The unpaid members were divided up among the directors who will call them about dues.  Dues must be paid soon or the member will not be listed in the club directory.
·         Discussion of the unpaid members revealed a discrepancy in the club’s data base when Bernie and Phil noticed they had different information on a specific person.  Phil and Bernie will review the discrepancies and ensure the various copies of the data base are consistent.
·         Since several trips have been cancelled, Dave asked for guidance on whether he should return the checks now or possibly keep them if the trips are rescheduled. Based upon information from Bill Brown most, if not all, of the attendees prefer the check be held until the trip is rescheduled.  Dave will hold onto the check until it is determined the trip will be rescheduled or permanently cancelled.
·         The Treasurers Report was approved as presented.
Membership
·         Roger reported he was unaware of any new club applicants.  Bill informed him of one possible candidate and will request his application be submitted.
·         Roger reported the club Trifold brochures have been placed at several churches, Borough Hall, and the Haddonfield Library.  Roger thanked Warren Reintzel, Al Schmidt, Walt Baker, Bill Brown and Howard Rementer for obtaining permission and placing the brochures.

  • Information on the following planned trips will be supplied later.
    • Phillies Ball Park Tour - 6/30
    • Shofuso Japanese House Tour – 7/22
    • Phillies Game 8/24

  • 4th of July Parade
    • Frank made a proposal for the parade topic which interested several board members.  More details will follow.

Old Business

  • Cleaning
    • The requested second cleaning proposal was not obtained when the cleaning company declined to bid.
    • Bill contracted with the cleaning company to clean the club house once a month for $60.
    • Bill also had the club house rugs cleaned for $100.
    • Providing access for cleaning is an issue because the cleaning takes in excess of two hours and some club member must be present.  The board agreed to place a key in the clubhouse mail box to allow the cleaning company access.  The cleaning company will leave the key in the mail box upon cleaning completion.
  • General maintenance and repair.
    • The cost of window replacement and repair ranges from $7,000 to $30,000.  Both proposals were rejected by the board.  It is unclear what advantages are obtained for $7,000 and $30,000 is unaffordable to the club. The club will concentrate on upgrading lighting.  Bernie will direct this project.
  • The Tai Chi class Jack Poupard conducted, before the shutdown, was well received and members want it to continue.  Due to the shutdown, future classes must be shown on YouTube or Zoom.  Bill will discuss this with Jack.

Trips/ Events
  • Bill Brown reported the Simeone Auto Museum on March 25 has twenty attendees.  The trip bus will be Haddonfield school bus which is cheaper than other buses.  Bill is concerned though the half of the attendees are non-club members.  While non-club members are welcomed and desired it is preferable that a majority of attendees are club members. There was a brief discussion that non-members could be contacts for new members.

Treasurers Report

·         Treasurer Dave Tarditi provided a detailed financial statement of the club’s finances and told us we were in good financial shape.
·         The 2020 budget was revised downward by $200 from the 2019 budget because in $2019 the club received an unexpected gift of $200.
·         Eighty-one (81) members have paid dues for 2020, as of February 5.  This is one half of the club’s membership.
·         After some discussion the board decided to send out another dues remainder within a week. At some time in the near future phone calls will be made to members to personally remind them.
·         The treasurers report was approved as presented.
·         Howard Rementer identified the club’s annual budget is about $5000 and the treasury held about $20,000.  Howard asked if there was some contribution the club could make to help make Haddonfield more pleasant.  This initated a discussion among board members with various suggestions.  The club’s meeting house requires various repairs. There were suggestions the club obtained estimates for repairs.  The club will determine which are necessary and affordable and present them to the borough for permission for the club to perform.  The most popular suggestion was the club retain a cleaning company to keep the house clean and to relieve current members from  performing the cleaning.  John Cokos volunteered to obtain pricing from a cleaning company.
Membership
·         The new member mentioned in the January meeting provided his membership application.
·         The club makes a memorial contribution in the name of a deceased member to a charity of the members choice.  The board approved an increase in the contribution from $25 to $50.
·         The board discussed various ways to attract new members.  All concurred that personal invitations and contact was the most successful method.  However, to support the personal contact, the club will advertise in local newspapers and possibly church bulletisn and other public media to make people aware of the club’s existence. These methods will be used provided there is no cost to the club.
·         The fall Wine and Cheese party is currently the primary meeting to present the club to prospective members

However, it was pointed out traditionally the spring luncheon venue is entertainment and preferably music.  Additional performance suggestions are requested.
