Board of Directors Meeting

November 2, 2023

The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday, November 2, 2023. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse. 

 Joseph Galliera, 1st Vice President (President David Tarditi had requested the 1st Vice President lead the meeting as he needed to attend the funeral of a friend) called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM. Joseph Galliera led the directors in the Pledge of Allegiance and provided a prayer. 

Acting Secretary Stephen Anderson then made an attendance roll call, and 2 members of the board of 15 were not present. 

Minutes– Stephen Anderson, acting secretary noted that the October minutes had been distributed, posted earlier, and approved by the Directors. 

Treasurers Report-Henry Zaleski

• The Club’s finances are ahead of expectations due in part to the profitability of the Lions Club Flee Market. 

• Membership dues are beginning to be submitted. More than 50 members have paid to date. A notice will be sent out to remind members to submit membership payments before year-end 2023.

• The 2024 Budget will be prepared for the next Board Meeting in December. 

• The Financial Report presented to the Board was approved.

Events -Joseph Galliera

Upcoming events in which members are encouraged to participate by committing their time.

• November 11 – 5K Run – Marshalls to monitor the raceway. Reporting at Christ the King Church at 8:00 AM.

• November 25th Turkey Trot – Marshalls to monitor the raceway. Report at 65 Club House, 8:00 AM.

• The person who handles the Christmas cookies is Henry Leimkuhler. Also, he left a list at the club for review. People should check that list and add names of men they think should receive cookies.

Nominating Committee

Request for suggestions and volunteers for three Director’s positions. Names to be sent to Bill Brown and Roger Jacobs. 

Positions for the Board of Directors are also open as some members are at the end of their term. Also, request that all current leaders of activities confirm their commitment to 2024.

Luncheons -Abe Ferdas

• Stage luncheon was very successful with 58 attending.

• Wine & Cheese -Nov 4th -Grace Episcopal Church Parish Hall – 7:00 PM dance music by Jack Poupard and his group. 

Speakers-Joseph Galliera

• A full schedule of speakers thru the end of 2023 and into the first quarter of 2024 were shared at the meeting. Highlight in 2024 – Black History.

• Encouragement from members to suggest potential speakers. 

Trips – Stephen Anderson

• Stall in trip planning due to trip suggestions not engaging for members. 

• New potential trips will be promoted through newsletter and website to whet the appetite of members.  This will include Holocaust Museum and, Navy Shipyard.

Christmas Party-Jay Cokos and Abe Ferdas

• Discussion regarding moving the location of the Christmas party to Tavistock from Methodist Church.  

• Vote-by Board – 100% to make a location for the Christmas party scheduled for December 14th, for lunch, to Tavistock instead of the Methodist Church. 

Christmas Holiday – unrelated to the Christmas Party

• Request that members provide their Christmas Cookie List to Jay Cokos or Bernie Schaming

• Camden Salvation Army Red Kettle requests volunteers to man the Red Kettles needed. Starting November 24 to December 23. To ring the bells at near retail stores set by the Salvation Army, in Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester Counties. 

Side Suggestion not on the Agenda – Consider replacing the Club House rug as a budget item for 2024.

No proposal was made on the subject, but general agreement that it should be considered.

Joseph Gallieria asked if any further issues were to be brought to the Board of Directors.

There were none. He then asked for a motion to Adjourn the meeting. The motion was made and seconded. 11:45 AM EDT.

September, 2023

The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday, September 7, 2023. The meeting was held in the 65 Club House.

President David Tarditi called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM. He then led the Board of Directors in the Pledge of Allegiance and led a prayer with and asked that members Bill Brown, Al Richards, and Allan Ritchie be kept in our hearts and minds for their health recovery.

A board member roll call was made, and 12 members were present.

The August minutes, which had been distributed and posted earlier, were approved by the Directors.

President’s Report

Lions Club Flea Market

·       President Tarditi then advised a change in the order of topics for this meeting and that the Board focus on the upcoming Lions Club Flea Market on Saturday, September 9, in which 65 Club is prepared to participate with a broad range of donation items. Bernie Schaming is leading the project.

·       Bernie reported his most significant concern was the weather forecast of rain on Friday and Saturday. He then reported on the preparation for moving the hundreds of items by member’s vehicles on Friday and delivering them on Saturday at 6:00 AM. He encouraged volunteers for loading and unloading and manning the “booth.” Set up at 8:00 and then shut down from 1:00 to 2:00.

·       President Tarditi thanked Bernie and others who have contributed their time to the preparation.

Review of BBQ Cookout

·       Dave thanked those who produced and cooked the BBQ and noted that it entertained potential members and recruited new members. 40 attended!

Membership-Chuck Kanupke

§  Membership efforts are taking hold. On October 14^th, the Club will have its “Meet & Greet” and noted that it may not be needed if we continue to succeed in new members through other methods.

§  Therapy Dog Conference at Rowan– May not be necessary to attend as we have other sources thru the dog owners’ and trainers' participation in the Fourth of July parade.

§  New Members:

§  Two new potential members have filled out their applications and paid their membership fees.  A request for a vote to accept these two new members. Seconded.

The vote was unanimous.

Steve DerKoski, Haddonfield resident. Retired Educator.

Lester Owens, Blackwood resident, retired professor of mathematics.

·       David suggested that a “buddy system” be established” to bring new members to meetings and events. And that newcomers be given a copy of all necessary documents so that they are fully informed of the full spectrum of the Club.

Discussion Regarding Tuesday's Meeting

·       Discussion regarding the discussion content of the Coffee & Chat meetings.  The concerns about personal privacy topics were recorded by Jack Lardis, Chairman, during the Coffee & Chat meeting by handwritten notes and later printed as a recap of the meeting and shared with everyone who has signed up to attend.

·       A proposal was made that NO written or electronic recording of the Coffee & Chat shall be taken.

·       The proposal was seconded and unanimously agreed.

·       Chuck noted that in 2022, a class was held to inform new members, which was very successful. Suggestions were made that perhaps that should be reborn.

·       David suggested we all put the year we joined on our name tags. Discussion. It seemed easy to do for new members.

 

 

Treasurers Report- Hank Zaleski

Treasurer’s report had been circulated to all board members. Request for approval. Seconded

·       Vote – Accepted. Unanimous

Speakers- Joe Galliera

·       The speaker schedule is fully booked except for 2 Thursdays in November and 2 in December.

·       Suggestions made to have Best Christmas Memories open mike at the meeting. Informal discussion supported the idea—no vote was taken.

·       Bill Brown has suggested a female singer who has an excellent reputation.

·       Joe will follow up with Bill about her possibly being at the Spring Luncheon.

·       Joe Dickson, a collector of sports hero’s shoes and professional editor, is on the docket for October 12th.

 

Bridge-

·       A new “learning bridge” class is planned for Mondays, provided we have enough for a foursome.

Penuckle – Fred Ogden

·       Fred has agreed to lead Penuckle events until Tom Mervine’s health allows him to return.

Events Committee

·       Golf, Bowling - no updates or reports

·       Wine and Cheese-Plan is for 20 members with spouses as attendees. More details to come.

 

Trips- Steve Anderson

Two suggested trips were brought to the Board.

·       Kroc Center – Camden – Potential Sept 26. Yet to be confirmed.

·       Trip to visit the E-Car Dealerships in the region. Discussed briefly. Declined.

·       Simeon Race Cars Museum in Philadelphia was mentioned.

·       Suggestions are made and will be researched, priced, proposed, and marketed.

Website-Chuck Kanupke and Al Schmidt

·       Updating the website is in progress, as discussed at the prior meeting.

August, 2023

   We are looking to enlist volunteers to help engage new members 

during the club’s upcoming cookout. 

-       The Greet and Meet process to engage non-active members is unclear.  

-       The cookout date was discussed and as August 31 was followed by 

the Labor Day weekend, it was decided to have the cookout on 

Thursday, August 24.

-       It was decided to move the Stag Lunch to the spring and the spring 

dinner with wives to the fall of next year.

-       The Flea Market with the Lions will be Saturday, September 9^th.

-       Donation of family “stuff” is needed and will be encouraged in the 

upcoming newsletter.

-       We are looking for ways to help new members who have joined the 

Club become more active by joining offered activities.

-       To better understand the profile of the non-active members, Jack 

Lardis has offered to survey these members by telephone and try 

to learn why they are not involved.  

-       The club is looking for someone to demonstrate how to use life-saving 

equipment like the defibrillator, CPR, fire extinguishers, etc. to the 

members during a Thursday meeting. TBD.

July, 2023

 The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday July 6, 2023. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

President David Tarditi called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM. Dave Tarditi led the directors in the Pledge of Allegiance and provided a prayer.

Roll was called and twelve (12) board members were present.  

Minutes –Fred Willis

• The June minutes, which had been distributed and posted earlier, were approved by the Directors.

President’s Report – David Tarditi

• 4th July Parade.
• Dave thanked Frank Lodge and Chuck Kanupke for the extensive work they did in arranging the clubs’ parade entry. The club won 2^nd place in the parade, losing out to a young girl dancing group.
• Chuck informed the Directors there was a great turn out of dogs and their owners. The dogs wandered to the sidewalks to say `hello’ to the crowds and delighted the kids. The dogs were extremely well behaved and there was no fighting between the twenty-five dogs.

• A thank you note and a copy of the second place ribbon will be sent by pdf to the dog owners.
•  Secretary Retirement
• The Secretary informed the Directors he would step down at the end of 2023. He will be available to guide the new secretary in the position’s responsibilities.
• The Directors will begin a search for a new secretary. Interested candidates should contact Dave Tarditi.
• Member Solicitation.
• Dave described a recent event where it appeared club’s email list was used to advertise a business. This cannot and will not occur again. The club is a social club and using the club for business advertisement or solicitation may affect its federal tax stratus.

• Hank was unable to attend but had sent out an updated treasurer’s report for June.  This report was approved by the Directors.

Speakers – Joe Galliera

• Joe informed the Directors he had one speaker opening in August to fill and some in October.  September is filled.

Membership – Chuck Kanupke

• The following new member application was reviewed and approved by the Directors:

Trips – Steve Anderson

• The starting time of Phillies August 1 trip has been changed to 1:00 PM.  This requires a change in the lunch time at Kunkel’s. Lunch will be before the trip instead of after.  Notice of the revised times will be sent out shortly.

Old Business

• Chuck informed the Directors a Meet and Greet party will be held after the September flea market.
• Chuck gave a brief description of the Urban Promise high school graduation. Possible Club assistance will be discussed at the end of the summer.
• Coffee and Conversation – the group has about eight active members and is looking for more. The group members are learning more about each other and enjoying it. All topics, except politics and religion, are up for discussion.   
• Come out and meet a new person in depth.

New Business

• Website
• Chuck Kanupke and Al Schmidt propose to update the club’s website, which has not been revised for several years. Chuck presented a rough draft of changes which the Directors reviewed and discussed. There were several items which require additional discussion and review. Chuck will review the initial draft and present it again next month for additional Directors comments.
• Parade expenses
• The dogs and their handlers introduced a cost expense which was not completely definable before the parade.  The expense was submitted and approved by the Directors. The complete cost - $237 which included lunch for the dog handlers, water for the dogs and supplies for banners.
• Parade Attendees Reception –
• Chuck suggested the club have a small reception in August at the clubhouse to thank the dog owners for bringing their dogs to the parade.  Chuck Kanupke and Tom Diemer will plan the date and cost and presnt it to the Directors
• Expense Approval
• The Directors currently approve All expenses.  A motion was made to allow the Club President to make small purchases without Director approval.  This was discussed and the expense approval will be continued.
• Trash – the directors approved $30 to buy another trashcan  
• The Directors requested President Dave Tarditi send a note of appreciate to David Hunter thanking him for suggesting honoring service dogs as a parade theme.
• Pickle board – this issue was brought up and then tabled until the next BOD meeting.  Should the Club embrace Pickle board as an event.  Is there any interest in engaging the club.

 The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday June 1, 2023. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

President David Tarditi called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM. Dave Tarditi led the directors in the Pledge of Allegiance and provided a prayer. Hank Zaleski took the minutes for Fred Willis who was tramping around New Mexico.

Roll was called and fourteen (14) board members were present.

President’s Report – David Tarditi

• Spring Luncheon
• Dave said he was pleased with the Luncheon.
• Dave thought Dickie Noles did a great job…all agreed
• Urban Promise

o   Six members went to Urban Promise on May 16^th to discuss career possibilities. It went well and Dave expects the club to have a continuing relationship with Urban Promise

 

Treasurers Report – Hank Zaleski

• Hank informed the Directors that the major item for May was the Spring Luncheon. The club paid about $250 more than it received. $200 had been budgeted from Operations. The balance (about $50) was charged to the Luncheon Fund
• The rest of the expenses and receipts for May were normal.

 

Speakers – Joe Galliera

• Joe has speakers scheduled out through mid-August

 

Membership – Chuck Kanupke

• The following four new members were approved:

• Bill Bittle
• Barry Bannett
• Bob Nichols
• The club has signed up about 2 dozen new members so far this year. The recruitment activities are paying off.
• Chuck reported that he is planning to use the Flea Market as a recruiting event and plans to hold another Meet & Greet in the fall

 

Old Business

• Indian King Skirmish – June 3
• Volunteers are still needed for the event this weekend
• 4^th of July Parade
• Frank Lodge reviewed his plans for the parade. The biggest issue appears to be getting enough dogs for the parade. A plan was developed to accomplish this. Chuck Kanupke volunteered to be the “dog catcher/wrangler”
• Tyrone, our service dog/mascot will lead the 65 Club contingent in the July 4^th parade.
• Club Annual Directory
• Bernie informed the directors the mailing of the directory cost $143.

• Trips
• The Phillies stadium tour trip is scheduled for August. Details were sent out to the club members
• A similar trip to the Eagles stadium is being pursued.
• Open house/coffee gathering
• Jay Cokos reported that the first gathering is scheduled for Friday, June 9th. There is going to be a discussion about moving this to Tuesdays assuming the gathering has some interest.

Bill continues to recover from his fall and is at Kessler Rehab

The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday May 4, 2023. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

President David Tarditi called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM. Dave Tarditi led the directors in the Pledge of Allegiance, singing of God Bless America and provided a prayer.

Roll was called and thirteen (13) board members were present.  

Minutes –Fred Willis

• The April minutes, which had been distributed and posted earlier, were approved by the Directors.

President’s Report – David Tarditi

• Spring Luncheon
• Calling members to remind them to attend the luncheon resulted in only two or three additional attendees.
• The latest count is 63 members and spouses and four guests are coming
• Based upon these numbers the club subsidy for the luncheon will be about $200, which had been expected.
• The $250 deposit to Tavistock will be credited to the fall Stag luncheon.
• Urban Promise

o   The club will travel to Urban Promise in Camden on May 16 to meet with the students.

o   The meeting format is currently unknown. Doug Crawford will be contacted on this issue.

 

Treasurers Report – Hank Zaleski

• Hank informed the Directors that a surge in membership renewals and new members occurred in April. As a result, the budget forecast for membership dues for 2023 has been met. Only one member was dropped for not paying dues
• The club has spent $600 on new member activities.  This amount was not budgeted for in 2023 but will be a line item in the 2024 budget.
• There is a small increase in expense for food. This is the inflation effect.
• Dave will present the club’s $1000 high school scholarship award.
• The club’s income and expenses amounts are in accordance with projections and the club is meeting it annual financial plan.

• Volunteers are requested to man the three contribution collection points in Haddonfield.

 

 

 

 

 

New Business

• 4^th of July Parade
• The theme will be `Ty- Our Service Dog’ or `Service Dogs’
• Frank lodge is asking for members to suggest ways to present this theme. He requests emails with suggestions.
• Ty will lead the 65 Club parade entry, if he is available. This must still be confirmed
• There will be a parade committee meeting at the end of June.
• Club Annual Directory
• Bernie informed the directors the directory would be printed by Monday.
• There are numerous positions which require a volunteer to organize the event.
• After considerable discussion some positions were deleted, some were left open and an organizer for Luncheons was found.
