 The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday April 7, 2022. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

President Roger Jacobs called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM.  Dave Tarditi led the directors in the Pledge of Allegiance and provided a prayer

Roll was called and fourteen (14) board members were present.  

Minutes – Fred Willis

  • Reading of the March minutes was omitted. The Directors approved the minutes as previously distributed and posted.

President’s Report – Roger Jacob

  • Roger presented several issues concerning Haddonfield Borough issues and activities the 65 club members would be interested in or are participating in.  He asked the directors which ones they though the club should send to the membership.
    • After a brief discussion, the directors voted not to send notice of Haddonfield borough issues to the membership.  This was not the club’s responsibility and information all the issues are available through the local newspapers and on Haddonfield-Haddon Patch.
    • John Cokos proposed the club notify the membership of a Wine and Cheese fund raiser for the Association for Constitutional Awareness, an organization which provides a $150 scholarship to high school students who provide evidence they have read the US Constitution and Bill of Rights.  After a short discussion the directors approved this notice to be emailed to the membership.
    • Roger informed the directors that Camden County College was sponsoring six lectures on various aspects of American Revolution history which occurred in or around Haddonfield.  The lectures are held Wednesday evening at the Masonic Temple or Borough Hall. The directors approved sending the Lecture information to the membership.
  • Roger thanked Dave Tarditi for the cocktail hour Dave held at his home for attendees prior to the Post 38 Last Man Standing dinner at Tavistock CC on Tuesday April 5.

 

Treasurers Report – Hank Zaleski

  • The Club’s expenses for March exceeded income by about $400.  Income was approximately $1,300, mainly for the Spring Luncheon.  Expenses were about $1700 Which was mainly composed of $1000 for the annual high school scholarship and $300 for a donation to the Lions Club.
  • Five (5) members have not yet paid their 2022 dues. They will be deleted from the 2022 Club directory which will be published shortly.
  • The $100 Boy’s state contribution to the American Legion will not be made this year.
  • The Treasurer’s Report was approved. 

 

Speakers – David Tarditi

Dave reported speakers have been arranged through May19., but he was still looking for more.

  • April 14 – Business meeting
  • April 21 – Robert “Rocky” Wilson –He is a poet, a performance artist, and a teacher who lives near the Delaware River in Camden He has studied creative writing at both Penn State and Rutgers, and has a Master’s degree in Dance Education from Temple Univ. He has been interpreting Whitman in schools and libraries and for historical groups at the Philly Fringe Festival. He may be accompanied by Bongo, his puppet monkey, referred to as “The Puppet Laureate of Camden.” Rocky, besides writing poems, has hosted “Pizza & Poetry at A Slice of New York in Camden”, which is one of the longest running poetry series in New Jersey. This past year, with the help of Bongo, he wrote a children’s book “The Lucky Monkey”. Additionally, he has been a substitute teacher in the city for over 40 years.
  • April 28 – Jack Landis –A 65 Club recent addition, will speak on: “Near Death Experiences”
  • May 5 Pan and Ron Pantano will speak on “Honor flight” a grogram they do wherein they take day trips (mostly by bus-at their own expense) for 100-150 Veterans to various historical / patriotic sites so to help the Veterans learn more about the country for which they fought.
  • May 12 – Business Meeting
  • May 19 –A trip to Iran. This goes back a few years and will be a slide presentation by two Americans who visited much of Iran, so to give us a” hands on” insight of this “different from our culture” troubling nation.
  • May 26 & June>>>next January: To Be Determined! Recommendations are welcome.

 

Membership – Joe Galleria

  • Joe informed the directors two applications, Jim Carson and Craig Evans, were waiting for approval.  The applications would be provided to the directors for approval today.
  • The board approved two new members Jim Carson of Haddonfield and Craig Evans of Haddon Heights.
  • The directors where informed Margaret Martin of Cherry hill donated an almost complete collection of Louis Lamour westerns to the club, these are hard back books in excellent condition which her husband read on business trips.
  • Joe will send her a Thank you note.

 

Trips/ Events – Bill Brown

  • The Spring Luncheon has 45 sign ups so far.  Attendance of 100 is desired. Bill passed out lists of members to call to ask them to attend.
  • Bill is trying to set up a local trip on May 10. The trip will include visits to Barclay Farms, the Haddonfield historical society with a review of the tool collection and a pizza lunch at the 65 Club Clubhouse. Attendance will be limited to twenty (20) members

  • Tom Diemer inquired whether the club wanted to purchase a tower fan when the air-conditioner was not turned on but some cooling was required.  The directors voted to table the motion until a later time.
  • The Haddonfield Fall Festival will be held this year on Saturday October 1.
  • The club will request a table and will erect a tent this year.  Volunteers to assist in erecting the tent and manning the table are requested.
  • The club is waiting to hear if the Lions club will have a Flea market this year.  The club has joined the Lions club Flea Market in the past. The absence of the flea market will significantly affect the clubs’ income
  • Frank Lodge will supervise the Club 4th of July parade entry. His lasted subject suggestion is Our Town/ Our neighborhood.  How each section of Haddonfield was named.
  • Bernie requested the Newsletter have only even number of pages, even if one page is blank. An uneven number of pages does not print properly.

 

Joke master

Normally the Directors’ meeting is not ended with a Joke but Howard wanted to set a new precedent.  After listening to Howard’s joke, the directors decided the old procedure was far preferable.

The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday March 3, 2022. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

Attendees: 

Roger Jacobs, Dave Tarditi, Joe Galliera, Hank Zaleski, Rich Carney, Jay Cokos, Al Schmidt, Bernie Schaming, Walt Baker, Howard Rementer, Henry Leimkuhler

President Roger Jacobs called the meeting to order at 10.00 am.

Dave Tarditi led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer.

Minutes from the February Board meeting were approved as previously distributed and posted.

The Secretary was unable to attend the meeting. Minutes were kept by Treasurer Hank Zaleski.

Presidents Report – Roger Jacobs.

·       Conduct at meetings - After some discussion, the BOD agreed that Roger would remind weekly meeting attendees to be courteous to guest speakers by silencing cell phones, avoiding side discussions, raising hands for questions and showing up on time. On a separate note, the BOD also suggested waiting till meeting adjournment before serving ice cream at the monthly business meeting.

·       The BOD approved a $300 one-time contribution to the Lion’s Club Mayor’s Breakfast as it is celebrating 50 years at this year’s Citizen of the Year event to be held at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday March 19 at 9.00 am.

·       Roger represented the 65 Club at the most recent Mayor’s Community Collaborative meeting. He reported that the town will stop the use of plastic bags on May 4, 2022. The Partnership for Haddonfield will be distributing cloth bags at the Farmers Market on 4/22/22. In addition, the Fall Festival is back on for 10/1/22. Roger also supplied a summary of the 65 Club’s activities to the Newcomers Club for its informational packet and to the upcoming Borough’s New Resident and new Business packets.

Vice-Presidents Reports – Dave Tarditi and Joe Galliera.

·       Dave submitted a picture of the officers to The Retrospect along with a summary of the Club’s history and activities. Some edits were suggested to the narrative. Roger, Dave and Joe are following up.

·       Dave will send out info on the Legions Last Man Standing event in April.

·       Dave reported no change in speakers from the last list communicated in the monthly newsletter. He received a few suggestions from board members for new speakers

·       Joe reached out to the town churches to advertise the club and put something in  “Coffee News” as well.

·       Bernie Schaming will follow-up on the possibility of getting cloth bags with the 65 Club logo as suggested by Rich Carney.

·       Rich Carney will follow up on the Master Gardener speaker and potential trip.

Treasurers Report- Hank Zaleski.

·       February was a quiet month with only 2 expenses. The club received about $300 more than it spent. Hank closed the books earlier than normal as he was in Florida and New Orleans last week for Mardi Gras. Unlike Walter, he did not use club funds to buy beads!!!

·       There are 6 members who have still not paid 2022 dues. Multiple emails and messages have been left for these individuals. Bernie Schaming said the Secretary historically sends a letter to these individuals notifying them of their dues obligation before dropping them from the club roles. Hank will contact Fred Willis so that these letters go out before March 15.

Old Business

Al Schmidt is trying out a new camera and is following up on amplifiers.

The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday February 3, 2022. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

President Roger Jacobs called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM.  Dave Tarditi led the directors in the Pledge of Allegiance and then provided a prayer

Roll was called and fourteen (14) board members were present.  Former director Bill Brown attended for Tim Barnes who was away.

Treasurers Report – Hank Zaleski

  • The Club’s expenses for January exceeded income by about $400.  The was mainly due to the purchase of a new refrigerator.
  • Eleven (11) members have not yet paid their 2022 dues. Phone calls by Directors will be made to remind them to pay dues.
  • A $200 contribution was made in memory of recently deceased member Albert Luecke.
  • The Treasurer’s Report was approved.

  • Joe was unable to attend. Roger and Dave brought up members issues.
  • The board approved two new members Ross Brown of Haddonfield and Andrew Moritz of Cherry Hill.
  • The approval of Ross allowed the elevation of John Geist, from Guest to Special Guest member.
  • This elevation occurred because the number of Haddonfield members increased as a percentage of total membership.

Trips/ Events – Bill Brown

  • Bill is waiting for SCUCS arrangement on a Phillies ballpark tour. 

Friendship Committee – Henry Leimkuhler

  • Charles Legge had a pacemaker installed.

Old Business

  • Dave informed the directors the 65 Club had been reinstated as a Social Club for tax purposes. The club is classified as nonprofit organization not as a charity. This nonprofit imposes certain financial accounting procedures and regulations on the Club’s income.  The impact is when nonmembers participate in Club trips, they must make their payment to SCUCS and not the Club.  Details are obtainable from Dave Tarditi.
  • The board discussed what to do with the old refrigerator. Toss it or keep it.  Since one group is still using the old refrigerator and the new refrigerator is too small, both refrigerators will be kept in their current locations.
  • The video capabilities and equipment Al Schmidt has proposed will be discussed next month.
  • There was a discussion whether Zoom meetings for all members be continued. Some directors believe it discourages local members from attending the meeting.  However, Henry Leimkuhler pointed out many sick, older, or distant members also Zoom in. The board voted to continue Zoom.

 

New Business

  •  The Lions Club will host the Mayors Breakfast on Saturday March 19 at 9.00 am at the First Presbyterian Church. The Haddonfield Citizen of the year award will be presented. A Youth of the Year award will also be presented. Roger Jacobs’s grandson was one of four nominated for the award. The winner is an outstanding HMHS senior Madeleine Cush.
  • Mayor Collen Bianco Bezich organized a mayor’s volunteer committee which includes twenty-two organizations meeting on Zoom to discuss possible involvement and recruit volunteers.  The 65 Club participated in this meeting and will do so again on February 25.
  • The directors were informed the Haddonfield Commissioners are looking into reviving the Fall Festival and are looking for suggestions and recommendations from the Borough’s service organizations.
  • Al Schmidt asked about the club’s directory schedule.  Bernie Schaming informed him the directory will be printed in time for the spring luncheon in May.  The cut off point for dues payment and inclusion in the directory will be mid-April.
  • The spring luncheon will be held May 12 at Tavistock.  The performer has been booked.
  • Frank Lodge will supervise the Club 4th of July parade entry and is looking for suggestions.

 The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday January 6, 2022. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

President Frank Lodge called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM.   Roll was called and twelve (12) board members were present plus two future board members.

Minutes – Fred Willis

  • Reading of the December minutes was omitted. The Directors approved the minutes as previously distributed and posted.

President’s Report – Frank Lodge

  • Frank thanked the officers and board for their support during his term in office. He also thanked the former presidents who provided him with support and advice.

 

Treasurers Report – Hank Zaleski

  • The club’s net assets remained virtually unchanged for the month. Income equaled expenditures.
  • Approximately twenty (20) members have not yet paid their 2022 dues. An email will be sent to them that dues are due.
  • The Treasurer’s Report was approved. 

 

Speakers – Roger Jacobs

Roger informed the directors the last two speakers were forced to cancel due to possible Covid exposures.  He also informed the directors todays speaker would present by Zoom due to a Covid exposure yesterday.

Old Business

  • Dave informed the directors the 65 Club had been reinstated as a Social Club for tax purposes. The club finances will be reported on a 990 form.  The club income had exceeded some allowable limit and its social club status had been downgraded.  Dave’s filing of the proper forms had reinstated the club to it proper standing with the IRS.
  • The club’s refrigerator is failing.  Tom Diemer was authorized to purchase a new refrigerator at cost not to exceed $500.   
  • The video capabilities and equipment Al Schmidt has proposed will be discussed next month.

 

New Business

  •  Bernie Schaming gave a brief descriotion of the Membership Data base Configuration. Deceased members are moved form the main data base to a subdirectory.  Both directories, main and sub can be queried.
  • The status of a club singing choir is presently unknown.

 

Comment

A joke master is not requested for the Board of Directors meeting.  However, at this meeting, the directors were privileged to hear the first public performance of the new Bill and Bernie Comedy Team discuss building insulation contractors and the directors almost fell off their chairs in laughter.  The directors wish these two multi-faceted directors with success in their bright future career.

The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Monday December 6, 2021. The meeting was moved from Thursday, Dec 2 to Monday, Dec 6, because members wished to attend the funeral of Joan Brown.  The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

President Frank Lodge called the meeting to order at 10:30 AM.   Thirteen (13) board members were present. Chaplin Dave Tarditi offered a prayer.

  • Bill Brown indicated that he would continue to serve as Trip Coordinator under the new plan of using SCUCS to arrange transportation and trip services.

Old Business

  • Christmas Luncheon.
    • Jay is purchasing food and paper goods based on a 50-person attendance expectation.  He regrets that he sold the candles used for table centerpieces at the club’s Yard Sale, He expects to be able to purchase new centerpieces and stay within the approved budget of $500.  This includes a $100 contribution to the Methodist Church.
    • Frank Lodge, during his remarks as President, will remind members to sign-up for ‘Ringing the Bell’ for the Salvation Army Holiday Drive and to sign Christmas cards for members who are ill.

New Business

  • . Officers and Board Members for 2022.
    • The Nominating Committee presented a slate of Officer and Board Member Candidates for 2022.
    • Prior to voting on the slate, Walt Baker and Al Schmidt discussed the requirements for office.  Officers must be ‘members’ and not ‘guest members’.  Board Members may be either ‘member’ or ‘guest members’.
    • The following slate was approved.  The position of Second Vice President remains open.  Potential candidates were discussed and five members will contact one person each.  The board agreed to vote on-line during the month of December to fill that position.  The slate will be presented at the January Business Meeting for membership approval.

  • Marshalls for Veterans Haven 5K Race

o   Frank Lodge reported that Joe McElroy requested that the club provide four marshals to assist at this race to be held on Saturday, December 11.

o   Dave Tarditi discussed the impact this effort makes by supporting Veterans Haven, a 100-room facility where homeless veterans reside and are trained to return to a full life.  They remain from 9 to 15 months and 86% succeed.  Dave Tarditi, Frank Lodge, Jay Cokos, and Bill Brown volunteered.

 

  • Proposed budget for 2022
    •  The proposed budget submitted by email by Hank Zaleski was approved.  The budget includes $2000 allocated for video equipment to make meetings available to members who cannot attend in person.  Next year’s Board of Directors will decide whether to make this purchase.
    •  The $1000 allocated for club cleaning and maintenance does not specifically include the purchase of a new battery for the club’s defibrillator.  Walt Baker and David Tarditi examined past purchase history and the preliminary assessment is that a new battery may not be needed until 2025, but they will follow up. 
    • The purchase of a refrigerator does not appear as a line item in the budget

The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday November 4, 2021. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

President Frank Lodge called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM.   Roll was called and twelve (12) board members were present.

  • Reading of the October minutes was omitted. The Directors approved the minutes as previously distributed and posted.

President’s Report – Frank Lodge

  • There was no specific report.

 

Treasurers Report – Hank Zaleski

  • The club’s net assets increased for the month.
  • Approximately one half of the club’s members have paid their 2022 dues. An email will be sent to the remaining members reminding them that dues should be paid by December 31.
  • A CD is up for renewal.  Due to low interest rates, the CD will be renewed automatically.
  • An operating budge for 2022 is being prepared and will be presented at the December Board meeting.
  • Costs for a camera system and a possible new refrigerator will be included in the operating budget.
  • The Treasurer’s Report was approved.

Membership – Dave Tarditi

  • Three (3) new regular members were approved: 
    • All are members of the Haddonfield Fire Company and residents of Haddonfield.

 

Trips/ Events – Bill Brown

  • No trips are currently planned.  Bill has stepped down from trip planning and is waiting for a replacement.
    • The club will use SCUCS for planning trips and providing the bus. This is much easier than the work Bill did. However, a 65 Club member must be the contact point for arrangements.
    • Trips that were scheduled or discussed last year before the lockdown occurred include the Barnes Museum, the Phillies Ballpark, the Philadelphia Zoo and a Christmas trip.
  • Wine and Cheese Social Party
    • This will be held at the Markheim Art Center on Saturday November 20 from 7-9 PM
    • Cost $10 per person, wives are invited.
    • Potential new members are invited as guests at no charge.
    • Payment and sign up should be sent to Hank Zaleski.
  • Christmas party
    • This will be held at the Methodist Church on December 9.
    • Tom Mervine will arrange for the speaker.
    • Gifts - Unwrapped socks and toiletries are requested.  These will be donated to the Salvation Army.
  • Stag Luncheon
    • Bill asked the attendees to provide an opinion of the singer.  The BOD members thought he was good and should be considered for a return luncheon when wives are present.

 

Old Business

  • Wasp problem – arrival of cold has solved this problem for this year.
  • Indian King Skirmish
    • This will be held June 4, 2022.
    • The 65 Club will provide ten (10) tricorn hats and deputy badges for constables working at the skirmish to help direct the crowd.
  • Al Schmidt plans to show the Grace Church camera system to several club members after the BOD meeting.

 

New Business

  • . Salvation Army Kettle
    • The 65 club will man the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle for eight hours (8) on December 16. The Kettle will be at either Starbucks or Kings Court.  Volunteers are requested.
  • Newsletter - paper copy.
    • Bernie requested the paper copies be ready one-week earlier than currently due.  This will allow an earlier mailing so the electronic and paper copies will be received by club members at about the same time.  The directors approved this.
  • New Officers
    • A Nominating Committee of Frank Lodge, John Cokos and Bill Brown was formed to identify officers for next year. Six new directors and officers are required.

The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday October 7, 2021. The meeting was held in the 65 Club clubhouse.

  • The secretary read the September minutes and the Directors approved the minutes as previously distributed and posted.

President’s Report – Frank Lodge

  • There was no specific report.

 

Treasurers Report – Hank Zaleski

  • Hank was unable to attend.
  • Frank presented the Treasurer’s report and noted the September income was $1500 and expenses were $750. The primary expense was for the club’s new liability insurance policy.
  • The Treasurer’s Report was approved. 
  • Walt Baker and Hank will collect 2022 dues at the luncheon.

  • No trips are currently planned.  Bill has stepped down from trip planning and is waiting for a replacement.
  • The Senior Citizens United Community Services (SUCUS) has scheduled day bus trips for years.  After considerable discussion the Directors decided to have SUCUS schedule the buses instead of asking Bill Brown’s replacement to perform the work.  This issue will be discussed with SUCUS to determine its feasibility.
  • The Fall Luncheon will be held Thursday October 14 at Tavistock. The signed-up attendance is currently low.
  • A Wine and Cheese party will be held on November 13 if a location can be found. Al Schmidt will check with Grace Episcopal Church to determine if it can be held there.
  • Bowling – Walt said the group had added a Bowler of the Week Announcement
  • Tai Chai – John Biondi will speak at the afternoon meeting to promote attendance.

 

 

 

Old Business

  • Bill Brown noted tricorn hats and deputy badges for 10 club members to serve as constables at the Indian King Tavern Skirmish next June, had been purchased. The event is expanding in size and will be a big event on June 4, 2022.
  • Al Schmidt distributed information on a camera for video broadcasting of club meetings. The cost is $400 for a one-camera system.
    • Al said the camera is used at Grace Episcopal church and he would study the system used there before making any recommendations.
    • The 65 Club has six speakers installed but they are not connected to the existing microphone system.

 

New Business

  • Frank suggested reserving some chairs near the main door to make it easier for late members on canes to find a seat.  The directors felt this was unnecessary and the motion was dropped.
  • Walt asked if other members were having trouble reaching members to attend the Fall luncheon.  Several did but no solution was provided.
  • Bill informed the Directors five (5) members helped man the Lions club 5K run recently.  The run made $6,000 for the Lions.
  • There is a WASP problem in the club house.  Bill will notify the borough to look into it.
