November, 2020

The Board of Directors meeting of the Haddonfield 65 Club was held on Thursday November 5, 2020. The 65 Club clubhouse was closed due to the Corona virus shutdown. The meeting was conducted remotely using the Zoom program and was set up by Al Schmidt and Richard Bonnette.

President Bill Brown called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM.   Roll was called and twelve board members, plus Al Schmidt were on the call.

The secretary read the October minutes and the Directors approved the minutes as previously distributed and posted.

President’s Comments

  • The Salvation Army Red Kettle Christmas drive location will be at Starbucks on Kings Highway this year. The 65 Club will handle the Kettle for one day from 10 AM -8 PM.  The board voted for either Friday December 4 or 11 and Bill will submit the dates to the Salvation Army.
  • Kathy Tully, Neals wife, requested support for a fund raiser. Students are raking leaves to support the Broad Street Ministry in Philadelphia which provides assistance to working poor and the homeless.  Kathy requested the 65 Club place the leaf raking service on its website.  The board approved the request.
  • A request was made for the 65 Club to make a donation to the Health organization which provides cataract surgery to people in Haiti and other locations.  This was the organization Dr Kindermann works for overseas, which was described in a club presentation a few weeks ago.
    • After some discussion, the board approved placing the organization’s name on the club website. A contribution will not be provided because it is not a local group.  The clubs’ history is providing financial contributions only to groups assisting local people.

Treasurers Report

·        Treasurer Dave Tarditi informed the board of the following developments and expenditures.

    • Fifty-six (56) members have paid their dues for 2021.
    • The club lost $152 on the Fall Stag Luncheon due to no shows.  This was considered to be acceptable due to the importance of the members getting together socially.
    • The club received the defibrillator battery
    • Club income for the year has been reduced by about $700 while expenses are reduced by about $1,200. This means the club is making money during the COVID shut down.

·        The Directors approved the treasurers report.

Health & Welfare

·        Henry Leimkuhler reported on the following members.

    • Charles Legge is doing well
    • Dan Columbi has developed throat cancer and is currently unable to speak.
    • Don Beck has received a new hip.
  • A suggestion was made the club send cookies to the shut-in members as a Christmas present.  The cost will be $15-20 per person and will be ordered through Amazon.  This was approved by the board.  The total cost is unknown but is expected to be fairly low.

Membership

  • Roger Jacobs reported the follow developments
    • The delinquent membership chase has ended.
    • Further contact with local churches requesting Club information be placed on the churches’ website will be on hold until COVID-19 subsides.
    • Roger will create an ad for the Perfect Gift.  This Bill Brown idea suggests a club membership as a Christmas Present for the man who has everything.  This ad will be placed in local publications
    • The club is low on trifolds for distribution.  Bill will contact Joe Murphy to have additional trifolds printed.  John Cokos suggested the trifold message and format be reviewed.

Speakers

  • Frank Lodge informed the Directors that all presentations are filled through the fall.

Trips/ Events

  • Bill Brown reported the following developments
    • The October Stag Luncheon was highly successful.
    • The November Wine and Cheese party has been cancelled
    • The December Christmas party is still scheduled at the Methodist Church but is expected to be cancelled.  Gifts for assisted living members will be collected at the clubhouse.  Details to follow.
    • No trips have been scheduled for December.
    • Bowling, Bridge and Golf continue at reduced rates.

Old Business

  • Bernie Schaming will investigate updating the florescent lighting in the clubhouse.  This will require an electrician per the borough.   Club house renovations are generally paid for by the club so the LED upgrade will be a club expense.
  • The nominating committee will begin identifying next year’s officers in November.

New Business

 None

Adjournment

The meeting adjourned at 10:45 AM.

Respectfully submitted,

Fred Willis, Secretary
